BAFTA’s Red Carpet

The stars came out last night at the Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden for the BAFTA awards ceremony. Gold was definitely trending in all its glittering shades (see our Facebook coverage) and the little black dress put in a strong appearance too.

To us though the best dress of the night must go to Melissa George (left) in a Victoria Beckham gown which looked as though it was painted on. Her fringed clutch bag was equally gorgeous.

Finding this look for prom 2012 is not easy. The closest we tracked down was from the SuperTrash A/W 2012 collection. This Dutch label (right) are available in House of Fraser and plan to open a flagship store in London this autumn … bit late for prom!

Kate Fearnley – Designs with a Difference

Young, talented and successful, British designer Kate Fearnley creates clothes that stand out from the crowd, like this stunning black and white taffeta gown.

Edgy, unusual prom frocks and special occasion dresses fill her boutique in Middlesbrough and her quirky style enjoys a celebrity following including, Pixie Lott, Zoe Salmon and Alexandra Burke.

Her collection for 2012 has a 1950′s feel … with a Fearnley twist. We found the ‘Darcy’ gown (above) in the ‘Bridesmaid’ section of her website, priced at £199, but think it would make an ideal prom choice. While over in the Prom section the newly listed ‘Florence’ dress (right) is priced at £225 and gorgeous in ivory with cut out detail and a bow at the back.

Winner of Cosmopolitan magazine’s ‘Fashion Entrepreneur of the Year’ Kate’s gowns are now available in over 80 stockists nationwide, from her boutique in the North of England or online at www.katefearnleyboutique.co.uk. Oh, and there’s a sale on at the moment too!!

Red Carpet 1920′s Style

The awards season has just begun but already we’ve had some truly gorgeous frocks on the red carpet. Perhaps as a result of the new multi-Oscar nominated silent movie ‘The Artist’, set in the 1920′s, the flapper look is emerging as a trend.

Last night’s National Television Awards saw Fearne Cotton (left) wearing a stunning gown by Temperley London. The beautiful silk, crystal and tasseled dress ended just on Fearne’s knee but still had a distinct 1920′s feel.

Glee’s Lea Michele (right) graced the People’s Choice Awards earlier in the month in a fringe dress from the Marchesa Spring 2012 collection yet reminiscent of the Jazz Era.

With this modern take on the flapper style both ladies looked amazing and funnily enough both were declared ‘best dressed’ on the night by various journals.

Many prom designers are incorporating fringing and flapper elements into their gowns for 2012 but if you want the real thing check out Hollywood-based Leluxe Clothing. They’ve faithfully re-created 1920′s gowns for years and their Tango cream and silver dress is to die for.

More accessible is the highly individual Frock and Frill brand (left) who have a beaded Charleston style dress priced at £55 in nude.

New Prom Dress Emporium Opens

Ladies of the Midlands, you are indeed blest. Last weekend a new shop opened in Culcheth, Warrington, stocking a huge range of evening and special occasion wear and, yes, masses of designer prom gowns.

The Dress Studio carries frocks by Alyce Prom, Faviana, Joli Prom, Jovani, Night Moves by Allure, Tony Bowls Paris and Mac Duggal (pictured left) to name but a few and describes itself as ‘the one stop shop for the perfect dress’.

Already running one of the largest online prom dress shops in the UK and with years of experience in the pageant and beauty competition world (Miss Teen Great Britain officially opened the shop), The Dress Studio believe they know what a girl wants in a prom dress.

Currently stocking approximately 700 gowns, their collection is being added to all the time as they source new brands from around the world – just today they became the first UK stockist of Australian designer Dana Mathers.

Prices start at £29 and they are confident they can find you something “that makes you feel like a princess” on prom night.

Situated 5 minutes from the M62 and M6, the Dress Studio is open Tuesday to Saturday, or you can visit online at www.dress-studio.co.uk.
